Asa cum am afirmat si cu alte ocazii, fata de 居合道 [Iaido], in 剣道 [Kendo] nu exista secrete, insa exista particularitati ale modului in care tehnica este adaptata in functie de experienta si profunzimea nivelului fiecarui practicant in parte.

Privita din acest unghi, notiunea de secret exista.

Aspectele tehnice descrise aici nu inlocuiesc antrenamentul din dojo.

The alphabet helps us to write and read. He is not a purpose in itself.
The simple practice of the letters do not turn anyone into a renowned writer.

In the Martial Arts it is the same thing.
The basic technique is called “basic”, because it represents a beginning and not a purpose in itself.

the readers of this martial art blog should understand that all the technical advices that I have wrote here do not replace the dojo training.
their purpose is meant to highlights the substance of each technique like something that should be considered as a summary.

Although in the essence it’s the same thing, all the techniques must be taught according to the assimilative capacity of each student.

The modern Martial Arts are no longer secret, but the way in which every practitioner relate to them can be filled with many secrets.

no matter how much you will try to relate to a model, because in the end it’s all about personal ways of thinking and personal perception, where the subjectively sphere show her own true power.

in everything you do, always you will face these five secrets:

the indistinct truth in front of your eyes is a secret.
a thing that you can see it, but you are not aware of it, remains a secret.
a thing you do not understand, is also a secret.
everything which it seems trivial, in most cases at a closer look it is hiding a secret.
all the great things which are shown as simple things, are actually secrets.

Long time ago I heard this idea according to which “the bamboo shadows are sweeping the stairs without raising any grain of dust and the light penetrates the depths of the pond without leaving traces in the water”.

initially, being a teenager, it seemed for me just another martial art quote intended to make the training more interesting which is why I have not paid really much importance to this aspect.

certainly, at that point, I was not ready for this kind of martial approach, being more tempted to find new ways to defeat an opponent rather than ways to win a fight against my weaknesses.

the years have passed and meanwhile I had the opportunity to learn with and from experience of many great teachers until recently I realized that all my sword technique is comprehended now through the philosophy of martial art at a level so deep that any distinction between theory and practice almost faded.

If it is accepted the idea of a small Shomen-Uchi – with the left wrist at the high or slightly higher than the shoulders level, then it is expected as for the Do-Uchi to apply the same type of technique in response to this kind of Shomen attack.

furthermore, from my point of view, Do-Uchi can be performed in the next version:

– the shinai may do not follow a diagonal pathway as in the case of a conventional Do cut, but a perfectly or almost horizontal trajectory in order the bamboo sword can go under the opponent Chudan-no-Kamae;

– the Do cut can be executed with only one hand because the first cut in the first two Iaido Kata of Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei Iaido: Ippon-me – Mae and Nihon-me – Ushiro, it is exactly a horizontally cut performed one hand only, followed by a Shomen-Uchi – in the first case of the Kata the opponent being in front and in the second case the opponent being in rear.

certainly if the cut from Iaido Kata to which I refer could penetrate the skull, then there will be no difficulty in cutting the abdomen if it is applied in another context.

– simultaneously with the cutting trajectory of the Do-Uchi, it is good to try to change your direction thus to be able to advance towards to the slightly left or right of your adversary to avoid a colliding with him and for a proper cut with the first third of the shinai.

in this manner you can evade to be hit by his Shomen-Uchi.

if it is not applied a dodge step, there is a good chance for a Tai-Atari, that means almost certainly that your Do cut failed.

my solution in response to a small Shomen-Uchi it is a equally small Do-Uchi applied in the same time with a shift of position to the right or left of the opponent depending on the context.
